"Recognizing FOMO and JOMO: Understanding and Overcoming Fear and Joy of Missing Out"
The birth of Cryptocurrency in 2009 was a sign that the world was entering the digital era, which at present is growing rapidly. This development reached its peak in 2019, at that time bitcoin reached a value of approximately 900 million in rupiah. The news spread as fast as light and penetrated all levels of society, suddenly these numbers made people from all over the world compete to buy these assets. This is when the term FOMO was heard, FOMO stands for Fear Of Missing Out. This term is commonly used to refer to the behavior patterns of young people who always feel excessively worried and feel afraid of being left behind by current trends. Unfortunately nothing in this world is eternal, in the following year Bitcoin experienced a price decline that has continued to this day. If you think about it logically, you are sure that those who bought Bitcoin at that time would regret it.
On the other hand, there are some people who don't follow the trend, feel satisfied with their lives so they feel free, and focus more on the things they like. These people are referred to as JOMO. The term JOMO becomes the opposite of the term FOMO, then how do you switch from FOMO to JOMO?
- Dare to say no.
- Make a schedule that makes ourselves a priority.
- Learn to focus on one thing first.
- Set aside time not to be in contact with social media.
Of course there are positive and negative impacts on the decisions we make, so be wise in deciding a decision that involves other people or individuals.
